The Koenigsegg CCX is a mid-engined sports car built by Koenigsegg Automotive AB. The project began with the purpose of making a global car, designed and constructed to adhere to global security and environment laws, particularly to enter the United States car market. To market cars in the US many modifications were made to the look of the CCR; the previously used Ford Modular engine unit was replaced by a Koenigsegg engine made to operate on 91 octane fuel, readily available in the United States, and to meet the Californian emission specifications. The name CCX can be an abbreviation for Competition Coup? X, the X commemorating the 10th wedding anniversary (X being the Roman numeral for ten) of the conclusion and test drive of the first CC vehicle in 1996.
The CCX was presented at the 2006 Geneva Electric motor Show, showing off body alterations to meet US restrictions and a new 4.7 L twin supercharged V8 engine unit with the capacity of producing 811 PS (596 kW; 800 hp) at 7000 rpm and 920 N?m (679 lb?foot) at 5700 rpm of torque while operating on 91 octane gas. There have been 49 CCX-Series automobiles produced between 2006 and 2010 (30 CCX, 9 CCXR, 6 CCX/CCXR Model, 2 CCXR Special Release and 2 CCXR Trevita). One of them was a CCX used for Crash tests and one continues to be a stock test car. CCX cars have later been upgraded to be CCXR-spec.
