The Koenigsegg CCX is a mid-engined sports vehicle built by Koenigsegg Automotive AB. The project began with the purpose of making a global car, designed and manufactured to adhere to global basic safety and environment restrictions, particularly to enter into the United States car market. To sell cars in the US many alterations were made to the look of the CCR; the used Ford Modular engine unit was replaced with a Koenigsegg engine designed to run on 91 octane gasoline, readily available in the United States, and to meet up with the Californian emission expectations. The name CCX can be an abbreviation for Competition Coup? X, the X commemorating the 10th anniversary (X being the Roman numeral for ten) of the conclusion and try of the first CC vehicle in 1996.
The CCX was launched at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, wearing body modifications to meet US polices and a new 4.7 L twin supercharged V8 engine unit capable of producing 811 PS (596 kW; 800 hp) at 7000 rpm and 920 N?m (679 lb?foot) at 5700 rpm of torque while running on 91 octane gasoline. There have been 49 CCX-Series automobiles produced between 2006 and 2010 (30 CCX, 9 CCXR, 6 CCX/CCXR Release, 2 CCXR Special Release and 2 CCXR Trevita). One of these was a CCX used for Crash exams and one is still a stock test car. CCX vehicles have later been upgraded to become CCXR-spec.
